Alresford 24 – Fawley 42.
26th October 2024
Alresford welcomed Fawley to the Arlebury on a grey, chilly November afternoon, looking to rectify the issues from last weeks loss to Hook & Odiham.
Fawley kicked off the first half with an intent to utilise their pace out wide, and this was proven within the first minute as they crossed for their first try of the afternoon. The resulting conversion made it 0-7.
However, our pack and general forward play is proving to be a serious weapon, especially as we enter the winter months, and this pressure was rewarded with our own first try. Although the conversion was missed, the score was now 5-7.
And the good work continued with another Alresford try after superb work from the forwards. The resulting conversion made it a well deserved 12-7 to the home team.
But Fawley were not giving up by any stretch of the imagination, and duly scored their second try of what was becoming a see saw afternoon. The try was converted – 12-14.
The away teams pace out wide was becoming an issue for Alresford, as shortly after, Fawley ran in their third, converted try, increasing their lead to 12-21.
The away sides fourth, bonus point try was not long in coming, with the conversion making it 12-28, which remained the score at halftime.
Alresford kicked off the second half in determined fashion and were rewarded for their endeavours with their third try of the afternoon. The resulting conversion reduced the deficit to 19-28.
But back came Fawley, as the game started to stretch, with two quick converted tries, increasing their lead to 19-42.
However, in what is becoming a regular occurrence, it was Alresford who scored the final try of the afternoon, with the unconverted bonus point try making the score at full time;
Alresford 24 – Fawley 42
A frustrating afternoon for the home side, as our superb forward play with a monstrous performance from the pack, was undone by an away team with pace on both wings, and a back line with the ability to make full use of it.
It should be noted that we have a bonus point for scoring at least four tries in five of our games this season, which shows the potential that we have, and as with last week, we have positives that we can work on and develop, and areas that can be addressed at training.
Our thanks to Fawley, and we look forward to the return fixture later this season.
Our next fixture is on 23rd November when we travel to Chineham for what should be another great game of rugby.
As ever, thankyou to all those who came and supported the boys today, and we look forward to seeing you again in the upcoming matches.
